{"id":4609,"date":"2014-05-05T17:05:31","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T17:05:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/?page_id=4609"},"modified":"2014-05-05T17:06:04","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T17:06:04","slug":"ayo-onatade","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/?page_id=4609","title":{"rendered":"Ayo Onatade"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">My Misspent\u00a0Youth<\/span><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4601\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4601\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4601 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/image.jpg\" alt=\"Ayo Onatade\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/image.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/image-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/image-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/image-144x144.jpg 144w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4601\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ayo Onatade<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Everyone is passionate about something in his or her life for some it is football or shopping.\u00a0 For me it is a crime fiction in all its connotations and it has been the case for nearly forty years.\u00a0 It started with an Agatha Christie book to be precise.\u00a0 I must hasten to add that the book in question is not my favourite crime novel nor is it my favourite Agatha Christie novel.\u00a0 Those honours go to <em>Farewell my Lovely<\/em> by Raymond Chandler and <em>Murder on the Orient Express<\/em> respectively.\u00a0 However, the book does hold a lot of memories for me and it was what set me off on my journey to a life of crime.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/styles.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4603\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/styles-198x300.jpg\" alt=\"styles\" width=\"150\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/styles-198x300.jpg 198w, https:\/\/www.crimeculture.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/styles.jpg 331w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>The book in question is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Mysterious-Affair-Styles-Hercule-Mysteries\/dp\/0646418432\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Mysterious Affair at Styles<\/em><\/a>, which introduces readers to Hercule Poirot.\u00a0 It is the very first mystery novel that I ever read.\u00a0 My memory of this book is quite clear to this day.\u00a0 I remember exactly what I was doing and where I was when I first read it.\u00a0 I was in fact on a plane from London to Lagos (Nigeria) where I would spend the next ten years of my life.\u00a0 There is only one person that I have to thank for all this and that is my beloved mother, for she is the one who put the book in my hands.\u00a0 The <em>Mysterious Affair at Styles<\/em> will always have a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf.<\/p>\n<p>So what am I working on currently?\u00a0 Quite a number of things.\u00a0 Ideas are running through my brain for my next article for <a href=\"http:\/\/crimespreemag.com\" target=\"_blank\">Crimespree Magazine<\/a>.\u00a0 I have an article to write for the forthcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ies.sas.ac.uk\/events\/ies-conferences\/QueensofCrime\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Queens of Crime<\/em><\/a> conference due to take place in London and I am also jointly editing an anthology.\u00a0 There is also my day job to contend with as well.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Social Networking Administrator Ayo is a clerk for a judge in the Court of Appeal, a book reviewer and a major fan of athletics and American football living in London, England.
